Excerpt-Funny

Something was filling the spaces between us as we kissed, not only where we didn’t touch, but in the infinitesimal distance that kept Galan’s lips from merging with mine. It felt as though an electrical web were forming between my body and his.
“Stop…” I drew back, frightened by the sensation. “What is that?”
“What’s what?” He tried to kiss me again. “The energy you’re giving me is incredible.”
“Something feels weird!” I pushed against him, hard, and he let go.
“Erin, what is wrong?” He was so beautiful, he almost seemed to glow.
I was panting with fear. “That feeling! What was that feeling?”
“Lust?” He shook his head. “I just felt you giving me energy. Why don’t we do it again and see?” He took a step toward me. “A couple of hours of sex, and I could have enough energy to take care of Fellseth once and for all.”
“No!” I backed away from him, into the kitchen table. “Bad things happen to people who get it on with supernatural creatures! They go home to find that a hundred years have passed and everyone they know is dead.”
“What are you talking about? You’re already home.”
“Or they’re bound to servitude, or get obsessed and waste away to nothing. It’s in all the fairy tales.” He had stopped moving toward me, so I sat down in one of the kitchen chairs.
Galan pushed his hair back with a sigh. “Erin, I have had sex with human women before – specifically to get energy.”
“You have?”
He leaned back against the counter and nodded. “Uh-huh.”
“And what happened to them afterwards?”
His forehead creased. “Nothing happened to them. We had sex and chatted, I pretended to eat breakfast the next morning, and then I left.”
“So you don’t actually know what happened to them afterwards.”
“It gets a little blurry over the decades. But none of them slept for a thousand years afterwards, I can promise you. They might have napped a little, of course.”
